Westfield State University’s Glen Brewster named president of Sigma Tau Delta international English honor society
Westfield State University English Professor Glen Brewster, Ph.D. has been appointed president of the Sigma Tau Delta international English honor society. He will serve as president of the organization until 2020.
Sigma Tau Delta strives to recognize excellence in all areas of English language and literature studies, encourage further achievement in these areas, provide cultural stimulation on college campuses, and foster all aspects of the disciplines of English, including literature, language, and writing.
A long-time chapter sponsor for Sigma Tau Delta, Dr. Brewster most recently served as the Eastern Regent for the organization, prior to his appointment as president.
“While it involves a lot of work, I look forward to taking on the increased responsibility because I know well the good work that the society does for students.” says Brewster. “I also hope that I can encourage even more of our Westfield State students to apply for things like scholarships, publications, and leadership positions.”
Dr. Brewster has been a part of the Westfield State University English department for many years, including seven years as department chair (2003–10). The director of the University’s Honors Program since 2011, Brewster is also an advisor to several student organizations, including the Westfield Voice newspaper, Persona literary journal, and the Academic Pursuits Club.
He holds a B.A. in English and philosophy and an M.A. in English, both from the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. in English from Duke University.
