Tartan to serve as part of “Westfield 350”anniversary celebration; proceeds will fund new scholarship for Westfield’s high school seniors

Westfield, MA—Today, the official tartan of the City of Westfield was unveiled at City Hall. Westfield State University President Ramon S. Torrecilha presented City of Westfield Mayor Brian Sullivan with a framed tartan registration issued by the Scottish Register of Tartans (pictured) that recognizes the Westfield Tartan as authentic and unique.

President Torrecilha explained that the Westfield Tartan was designed in support of the City’s 350th anniversary celebration and will help fund the “The Westfield Pride Scholarship.” Proceeds from sales of ties and scarves will help fund the scholarship to be presented to the high school senior with the highest GPA from each of Westfield’s three high schools, who have been accepted and plan to enroll at Westfield State in fall 2019.

“We hope residents of the City of Westfield and university students alike purchase and wear the newly established tartan with pride. And, we hope it adds to the grand celebration of our City’s 350th anniversary,” said Torrecilha.

Joining President Torrecilha and Mayor Sullivan for the morning unveiling and announcement were State Sen. Donald F. Humason Jr. ’89 (R-Westfield), Westfield Public School District Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski, high school principals, and representatives from the Sons of Erin and the Westfield State Foundation.

The Westfield Tartan includes colors representative of Westfield State and the city’s high schools:

  • blue, white and gold for Westfield State;
  • black and red for Westfield High School;
  • purple and gold for Westfield Technical Academy; and
  • green and gold for St. Mary’s High School.

Following this morning’s announcement event, scarves and ties are on sale online for $65 and $55 respectively. Visit https://www.westfieldalumni.org/tartan to make a purchase to support “The Westfield Pride Scholarship.”
