Westfield—The College of Graduate and Continuing Education at Westfield State University will hold a free “course tasting” event, “Race & the English Classroom,” for the Master of Arts in English program on Monday, June 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Wilson 109.
Westfield State University offers a Master of Arts in English program designed for students who want to study literature and writing at the graduate level. Students can earn a M.A. in English with either initial or professional licensure.
Event attendees will sample a course that is offered in the M.A. in English program, titled “Race & the English Classroom,” which guides teachers to address racism through research that explains the challenges of taking on this work.
The full course also helps teachers consider their own racial identities and the need to change messages about race in schools.

Two Professional Development Points (PDPs) will be offered to teachers who attend this event. This course is taught by Westfield State Associate Professor of English Sophia Sarigianides, Ph.D.
