Westfield State University to hold fourth annual Henry Wefing Memorial Golf Classic

Westfield – Westfield State University will hold its fourth annual Henry Wefing Memorial Golf Classic on Friday, September 27 at noon at Tekoa Country Club in Westfield.

Sponsored by the University’s Communication Department and the Division of Institutional Advancement, as well as The Daily Hampshire Gazette, proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Henry Wefing Journalism Scholarship Fund to support Westfield State students pursuing a journalism career. Dr. Wefing was a journalist for 20 years for several newspapers before he began teaching at Westfield State in 1985.

Dr. Wefing taught journalism and writing courses for almost 30 years until his passing in 2015. Faculty and family members created the scholarship in memory of Dr. Wefing’s dedication to students and to the journalism field. Since 2016, the Henry Wefing Journalism Scholarship has been awarded annually to students pursuing a journalism-related career.

Tournament participation is $70 for students, $90 for individuals, or $350 per foursome. All prices include lunch, dinner, and 18 holes of golf. Corporate sponsorships are also available, including promotional options. Online registration and payment to participate is required by Friday, September 20.
