WESTFIELD STATE UNIVERSITY HOSTS ‘WESTFIELD GO!’ TO BETTER INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO DOWNTOWN WESTFIELD
Sept. 10 interactive event modeled after ‘Pokémon Go’
As part of its Fall 2016 Welcome Week for incoming and returning students, Westfield State University will host “Westfield Go!” on Saturday, September 10. The event concept was inspired by “Pokémon Go” and will provide students with the opportunity to discover downtown Westfield and its various businesses and resources through a structured scavenger hunt.
“This innovative day event will serve two objectives—help introduce our students to all that Westfield has to offer and provide some bonus foot traffic to downtown restaurants and other merchants and community services,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Carlton Pickron, Ed.D.
On September 10, the kick-off will take place at 12:30 p.m. on the Westfield Town Green, with the wrap-up and closing event taking place at 4 p.m. on the Campus Green at Westfield State University. Students will rely on the PVTA bus schedule and Westfield State shuttles to make their way downtown and complete the scavenger hunt on foot.
The hunt will involve competition among six-member student teams, as they will have to document their visits to the various businesses by uploading photos to the Facebook event page (http://tinyurl.com/jsakbor) and using the #westfieldGO2016 hashtag. Prizes will be awarded at the closing event on campus.
Westfield State is currently reaching out to merchants to participate in the event. Downtown businesses or other vendors interested in being part of this event should contact Valerie Tremblay at 413.572.5619 or email@example.com.
