Westfield State Scientist to deliver talk as part of National Climate Preparedness Week
WHAT: Carsten Braun, Ph.D., a professor in Westfield State University’s Department of Geography, Planning, and Sustainability, will offer a public presentation on climate change, as part of Climate Preparedness Week, a national effort to educate and prepare the general population for the effects of a changing climate.
Through Braun’s talk—“Code Red for Humanity: Understanding Global Warming’s Risks and What Each of Us Can Do”—the climate scientist will explore the science underlying climate change, the current and anticipated impacts, and what we can do to make a difference.
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation, which is sponsored by the Pioneer and Farmington Valley Library Collaborative and Voices Rising Together’s Climate and Environmental Justice subcommittee.

WHO: Dr. Braun is a climate scientist who has extensively researched and published in the field, in addition to conducting and collaborating on field research projects in the Rwenzori Mountains (Uganda); and on the Quelccaya Ice Cap (Peru), the Canadian High Article/Ellesmere Island, and the disappearance of glaciers in Venezuela. He has taught at Westfield State since 2006 and earned a B.Sc. from the University of Freiburg; and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. from the University of Denver.
