Local December events organized by Westfield State University public relations course will benefit the Westfield Food Pantry

Westfield—Members of the Advanced Public Relations course at Westfield State University have helped to plan four December events to benefit the Westfield Food Pantry. “Paint for Pantry” and “Feel Good, Feed Westfield,” will each take place at two area locations.
The events are as follows:
Tuesday, Dec. 3, 12–9 p.m., Tim and Jeanne’s Dining Commons at Westfield State University, 577 Western Ave., Westfield. An activity called ‘Toss Out Hunger’ is planned.
Thursday, Dec. 5, 8 a.m.–2 p.m., Dunkin’, Ely Campus Center, Westfield State University. An activity called ‘Paint for Pantry is planned.
Thursday, Dec. 5, 5–8 p.m., The Shortstop Bar & Grill, 99 Springfield Road, Westfield. An activity called ‘Paint for Pantry’ is planned.
Saturday, Dec. 7, 12–8 p.m., Holyoke Mall. An activity called ‘Don’t Drop the Ball on Hunger’ is planned.
Organized and staffed by student members of Westfield State University’s Advanced Public Relations course, each event aims to spread awareness of the growing issue of hunger in the community and the assistance needed by the Westfield Food Pantry. Each event will include an interactive element to learn more about the needs of area residents and the importance of food pantry donations.
During the holiday season, many local families rely on the Westfield Food Pantry for essential items that they cannot afford. According to local research, the child food insecurity rate for Hampden County is 24.3% with a child food insecure population of 27,530. Underprivileged high school students also struggle to obtain clothes, toiletries, and other necessities. Through these initiatives, the students hope to raise money through donations and raffle entries to assist the hard-pressed Westfield Food Pantry.
