WESTFIELD DICKENS DAYS CONTINUES
The schedule of Dickens Days community events heads into its second weekend on Friday, Dec. 2nd with the pre-show reception for “Images of Westfield.” This pop-up exhibition of fine photography, coordinated by Artworks Westfield, will utilize the historic 20 Broad Street building, formerly the Carson Center, to display the works of a number of Westfield’s lens masters. Framed and unframed art photos, calendars, note cards and other items will be on sale during the show which will run all day Saturday, Dec. 3rd from 10 am to 5 pm. The opening reception will be on Friday evening, 6pm-8pm is free and open to the public.
A Breakfast with Santa will be held at the Scanlon Banquet Hall at Westfield State University on Saturday morning, Dec. 3rd between 8:30 am and 10:30 am. In addition to the jolly and white bearded main guest, the festive full buffet breakfast will feature the Melha clowns (the happy, non-scary kind!), face painting, photo ops with Santa, and a gift for every child. Tickets are $7 for children and $9 for adults and are only available on line at westfieldstate.ma.edu. This is an annual event hosted by Westfield State’s Circle K Club.
On Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3rd at 4 pm, the widely acclaimed Novi Cantori will present Resounding Joy: A Carol Festival at the First Congregational Church on Broad Street in downtown Westfield. The Novi Cantori is a professional chamber choir which beautifully blends the voices of select singers from Western MA and Northern CT, and is directed by Dr. Ellen Gilson Voth. Admission to this performance is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.
Also in Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 7 pm, Winterfest: A Holiday Concert will be presented on the Denver Stage in Parenzo Hall at the entrance to Westfield State University. Students and faculty representing the Music Department at Westfield State come together to offer a wonderful musical gift to the community in this annual concert. The concert will feature performances by The Wind Symphony, The University Chorale, Jazz ensembles, and members of the University Music Theatre Program. This concert is also free, but donations will be accepted to benefit WSU music scholarships and Westfield on Weekends, Inc.
“The Gift of the Magi, An Original Holiday Musical” will be presented by The Westfield Theatre Group at the historic Westfield Woman’s Club, 28 Court Street, Westfield over the coming two weekends. Performances will be held on Fridays, Dec. 2nd and Dec. 9th at 7:30 pm, on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 7:30 pm, and on Saturday, Dec. 10th at 2pm and again at 7:30pm. Tickets to these performances are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors 60 and over. “A Dickens of a Day Holiday Home Tour” will be offered on Sunday, Dec. 4th between 12pm and 4pm. Tickets available https://www.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=916006. Back by popular demand, Westfield on Weekends presents the eighth "Dickens of a Day" Historic House Tour, beginning at Westfield Creative Arts, 105 Elm Street in downtown Westfield. Participants will be invited to enjoy holiday decorations, music, costumed characters and special treats as they take part in a self-guided tour of some of Westfield’s loveliest abodes, all decked out in Dickens Days style. Annually, Stanley Park partners with the Salvation Army to help a Westfield family in need by donating non-perishable foods and a Christmas tree. Please join them in helping this family by bringing a non-perishable food item and/or an ornament to decorate the tree that will be presented to the family. Baystate Dental is also having a mitten Christmas tree. So, bring an ornament for the Stanley Park Christmas tree and/or a pair of mittens to hang on the Baystate Dental tree! Both are donating what you bring to needy families this Christmas.
8th Annual Dickens Brunch and Dinner. These thoroughly enjoyable and memorable events combine “food, glorious food” with a rollicking, interactive version of Dickens’ magical creation, “A Christmas Carol,” performed by WOW’s inimitable troupe of able actors. The Brunch and the Dinners will be held in the beautifully restored Carriage House at Genesis Spiritual Life Center, 53 Mill St. in Westfield.
The Brunch Performance will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11th at 12 noon, and the Dinner Performances will be
held on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16th and 17th at 6 pm. Tickets for any of the dates are $45 for adults
and $25 for children. Reservations for any of the performances can be made by calling 413-562-3627 or
visiting the Genesis website at http://genesisspiritualcenter.org. Because there is a high demand for
these tickets, all reservations must be pre-paid before the performance.
