WESTFIELD OPIOID TASK FORCE: HEALING AND HOPE
The Westfield based Opioid Task Force will be holding a community event on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 6:00 pm in the Pavilion on Park Square Green. The gathering is to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day.
According to Kathy Sitler, Opioid Task Force Coordinator, International Overdose Awareness Day is “a day for us to remember those who have lost their battle with addiction, and a day for us to come together as a community to give hope to those still fighting, along with their families. The event is open to everyone.”
A special commemorative piece called the “Wall of Healing and Hope” will be on display as an active piece of art. The wall was created by volunteers Andy Weeks and John Carlo Woodworking, and is meant to encourage the healing process for the community. Attendees will be able to write messages of healing and hope on the wall. Materials to do this will be provided and people are welcome to bring photos of their loved ones to post.
A faith based agenda will provide the back drop for the event. Local clergy and church leaders will be on hand to say a few words and lend support to those who need it. Music from the youth choir at Blessed Sacrament Church will be performing as well as a soloist from Bethany church. Candles will be provided for vigil.
“We wish this to be a strong community event to continue to raise awareness to the opiate crisis as well as working to reduce the stigma attached to this disease.
