First Thursdays @ the Athenaeum Lunchtime Concert
Performer: Jon Berman (saxophone and acoustic guitar)
We are very pleased to welcome back saxophonist and acoustic guitarist Jon Berman to the Westfield Athenaeum’s lunchtime concert series! Berman, who lives in Blandford, has been playing saxophone for over 20 years. After studying jazz in college, he continued on to perform with many popular musical acts. His experience covers everything from intimate venues to large arenas including major label artists and a Dave Matthews Tribute band. Now, he brings his style of saxophone to songs we all know – but with an interesting twist. Minus a band, he’s been taking to the road with his horn (and recently, with his guitar) and sharing a sound you’ll be sure to remember.
Berman’s performances are drawing comparisons to violinist David Garrett, with his tendency to unveil unexpected cover songs from bands such as Pearl Jam and Sublime – in addition to songs from his CD release of “Another Side” in Spring 2011. He counts current chart toppers John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, and Jack Johnson as musical influences on equal footing with jazz masters Stan Getz and Joshua Redman.
